SW Iowa parents charged after telling sitters to keep child in 'makeshift cage'

(Radio Iowa) – The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office is holding two Shenandoah residents on child endangerment and abandonment charges after an incident Thursday in Hamburg.

Deputies found a four-year-old, with reported developmental disabilities, covered in filth outside a house, and another child inside the home. Both children were taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. Authorities allege the parents, 26-year-olds Dustin Perry and Lindsey Hamilton, left the children in the care of relatives with directions to keep the four-year-old in a makeshift cage.

A second homemade cage was discovered in a walk-in closet in a Shenandoah home. Authorities say multiple children were removed from the home by the Iowa H-H-S.
