Iowa Utilities Commission OKs hike in Alliant electric, gas rates

(Radio Iowa) – State regulators have approved an increase in the rates for Alliant Energy electric and gas customers.

Wisconsin-based Alliant Energy provides electricity to half a million customers in Iowa. According to the Iowa Utilities Commission, its decision will let Alliant increase the average monthly charge for residential customers to 15-and-a-half dollars per month. That’s a 19 percent increase.

Total yearly revenue from Alliant’s 225-thousand natural gas customers in Iowa will be allowed to grow by 10 million dollars.
